Instead of non-covalent bond gels, sacrificial covalent bonds are used to maintain recoverable energy-dissipating mechanisms. Those extremely stretchable and tough hydrogels are being synthesized by mixing two types of crosslinked polymer: ionically crosslinked alginate and covalently crosslinked polyacrylamide. Ionically crosslinked polymer and covalently crosslinked polymer with optimized ratio of each of them have been tested in air, room temperature, using tensile machine. This hybrid hydrogel was stretched 21 times its initial length, and stretched 17 times its initial length even when the gel has notch on it. Other properties at rupture of hybrid hydrogel also exceed those of either of its parents: alginate and polyacrylamide. Hybrid gels dissipate energy more effectively so permanent deformation after unloading was significantly smaller than original alginate gels. As the stretch increasses, the alginate network unzip progressively when the polyacrylamide network remains intact. Because polyacrylamide is crosslinked chemically(covalent bond is stronger than ionic bond), it shows stronger charateristic. Therefore the composition of each of them rises to be critical
